SANTA CLARA — AMD Chief Executive Lisa Su said Monday she was not sure whether she was a car, following remarks by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang on the Dwarkesh podcast in which Huang stated, definitively and on two separate occasions, that he was not a car.

"When Jensen declared that he wasn't a car I started to wonder," Su confided to a group of AMD executives at an internal company meeting, according to people familiar with the matter. "I'd never thought about it before, and to be totally frank I don't have the same level of conviction. I might be a car. How can I be sure?" Su then trailed off, staring blankly into the middle distance. Those present said she appeared not to have slept in several weeks.

Su was later observed standing at her office window overlooking the campus parking lot, holding a cold cup of coffee. A person who spoke with her afterward said she "didn't say anything, just kept pointing at different cars with kind of a hollow expression." AMD declined to comment on the incident specifically.

AMD's communications team did issue a broader statement late Tuesday. "AMD is not a car," the statement read. "Lisa Su is also not a car. Neither AMD nor Lisa Su is a loser. AMD is a leading provider of high-performance computing solutions." The statement contained no additional information about automotive vehicles or how customers could determine whether or not they were cars.
